About informal and non-formal learning

The project EASY incl. uses the following definitions of the different learning types:

Formal learning: planned, organised, socially accepted learning in public educational systems

Nonformal learning: collective term for all forms of learning which happen in all fields outside of formal educational systems

Intentional learning: intentional learning aims at a given learning objective. The focus is on the systematic transfer of knowledge.

Informal learning: informal learning ranges from unconscious and unintentional learning to intentional and conscious learning outside of educational systems.

Informal learning is experience based learning. Experience based learning means a person's conception of the environment as conditioned by individual, biographical and socio-cultural factors. It results in organised and retrievable experiences of life.

Yet informal learning also deals with ideas, theories, creative design, music, art, fantasy, and dreams. These do not "claim" to be holistic experiences but create additional dimensions of learning and quality of life.

Jost Reischmann and Marcia Conner about informal learning
Here you will find one article from Prof. Reischmann, who is one person at our advisory board and two articles from Marcia Conner about informal learning and learning inside companies. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
